Saving Gas During Summer Driving

Saving Gas During Summer Driving

A common cause of automotive roadside breakdowns is the depletion of gas from a vehicle’s gas tank – a common accident that occurs when gas levels are overlooked. In this blog entry, the roadside assistance experts here at Towing Chicago will detail some gas saving tips that can help you conserve precious fuel while driving this summer.

Lowering the Weight of your Vehicle

The higher your vehicle’s weight, the more gas it uses. You can save money by lowering vehicle weight. Get rid of the unnecessary objects you keep in your vehicle to save gas money!

Tire Pressure

If your tires are deflated, you can raise your gas consumption by an estimated two-and-a-half percent! This is due to the increased surface area in which underinflated tires hit the road – causing drag, which slows your vehicle down and increases it’s gas usage.

Idling

We recommend trying to idle your vehicle as little as possible. Even when this isn’t always possible due to traffic, it’s still a good idea to try to avoid it. If you’re stuck in traffic for an extended period of time, consider turning your car off while you wait to conserve fuel.

Proper Gas / Oil

Make sure that you fill your car with oil and gas types engineered to increase the longevity of your specific vehicle and engine type. You want to make the most of every gallon of gas and oil that your car contains.

Driving Slow

If you’re regularly accelerating fast, speeding your car, and rapidly braking – your car will burn higher amounts of fuel. We recommended driving slowly or at an even pace.
